Ear & Hearing Problems
Conditions that impair ear function can be as minor as wax buildup or as serious as congenital deafness. This section contains valuable information about how to protect your hearing, how to recognize indications of hearing disorders, and what ENT-head and neck physicians can do to evaluate and treat these problems.
Earaches
Otitis media means “inflammation of the middle ear,” as a result of a middle ear infection. It can occur in one or both ears. Otitis media is the most frequent diagnosis for children who visit physicians for illness. It is also the most common cause of hearing loss in children. Although otitis media is most common in young children, it occasionally affects adults.
Ear Tubes
Painful ear infections are a rite of passage for children-by the age of five, nearly every child has experienced at least one episode. Most ear infections either resolve on their own (viral) or are effectively treated by antibiotics (bacterial). But sometimes, ear infections and/or fluid in the middle ear may become a chronic problem leading to other issues such as hearing loss, behavior, and speech problems. In these cases, ear tub placement by an otolaryngologist (ear, nose, and throat specialist) may be considered.
Hearing Aids
No two hearing losses or treatments are the same and no other audiologist in Conway can provide you with the experienced, expert care that you will find with Dr. Kelso. Hearing aids used on a regular, daily basis can provide great improvement in not only hearing but understanding as well. Research shows that most people with hearing loss wait seven years between the time that they first start having problems and the time that they get a hearing test.
